Workers found a 50-meter tunnel hidden in rubble while building a new settlement

The legendary city of Jerusalem, which has been hiding the layers of history of countless civilizations under its surface for thousands of years, has come to the world’s agenda with a brand new and huge window opening to the unknown.

A gap caught in the bucket of a construction machine during an ordinary construction work gave birth to a discovery that shocked even the most experienced researchers. The Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) has officially announced the discovery of a mysterious ancient tunnel carved directly into the rock at its new construction site just north of the Ramat Rachel archaeological site.

Right next to the Biblical Kingdom of Judah

The detail that made the discovery even more attractive and theologically intriguing was the location of the tunnel. The ancient corridor is located at the very center of very important archaeological sites associated with the historical Kingdom of Judah mentioned in the holy texts.

This mysterious tunnel, carved into the hard rock with laser precision; It is exactly 50 meters long, 5 meters high and 3 meters wide. Experts emphasize that tremendous engineering knowledge, perfect organization and huge state resources are needed to build such a huge and flawless tunnel in an age without modern technology.

“I was amazed and very excited.”

As archaeologists began removing layers of soil and rubble, they realized that the tunnel had been deliberately sealed by filling it completely with rubble centuries, perhaps thousands of years ago.

Famous archaeologists Sivan Mizrahi and Zinovi Matskevich, who led the excavation, summarize their surprise with the following words:

“While working in a relatively open and rocky area, we first thought we had come across a natural karst cave. However, as we continued the excavation, the cave unexpectedly turned into a perfect underground corridor. We were amazed and very excited! To our great surprise, we found that the cave continues in the form of an endless tunnel. Some parts of it are still destroyed, so it has not yet revealed all its secrets to us.”

Scientists are desperate between 2 theories

In underground exploration around Jerusalem, experts are often quick to diagnose “an ancient water system”; However, since there is no trace of water being carried in this tunnel, the possibility of a water system has been completely eliminated. There are two strong theories on the table right now:

Imperial Quarry: The tunnel was dug to reach the valuable “chalk layer” that was used to produce lime for the construction of palaces and temples, which were considered the skyscrapers of the period. The vertical ventilation shaft on the ceiling of the tunnel and the excavation residues at the bottom support this theory.

Unfinished Mega Project: Before the tunnel could achieve its original purpose (perhaps to be a secret military passage), construction could not be completed due to a sudden war or collapse, and the project was hastily abandoned.

The tunnel is just a few hundred meters from Tel Ramat Rachel, which contains a monumental public building from the Iron Age (the First Temple period) and traces of habitation into the Islamic period. This lost corridor, described as the most mysterious engineering project in history, will continue to disturb the scientific world until it fully reveals the secrets underneath.
