Carnikava is a more than 800-year-old settlement in Ādaži county.
According to the population, Carnikava is the second largest village in Latvia and the 38th largest settlement in the country (2025 data), exceeding the population of forty-four Latvian cities, including such district centers as Saulkrasti, Valka and Smiltene, read on Wikipedia.
But still Tsarnikava is a village. Minister of Smart Administration and Regional Development Raymond Chudar on Facebook reports that “together with my colleagues, we submitted a proposal to the Saeima to grant city rights to one of Latvia’s largest villages – Carnikava! Carnikava is growing and developing – currently there are already more than 5,000 Carnikava residents!”
