Iranian media have reported that the presidents of Iran and the United States of America have signed an agreement virtually; An agreement that is supposed to provide the basis for the continuation of negotiations on the lifting of sanctions and some issues related to Iran’s nuclear program.
Esmail Baqaei, the spokesman of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in an interview with ISNA news agency that the agreement was initially supposed to be signed by the two sides at a meeting in Switzerland, but after the investigations carried out in the last 24 hours, it was decided that the presidents of the two countries would sign it virtually.
He added that the signing of this document at the level of the highest officials of the two countries will increase the cost of violating it, and Tehran has considered this method more appropriate based on past experiences.
Baghai said that with the finalization of this agreement, the two sides will enter the next stage of negotiations. According to him, in the next 60 days, additional talks will be held on the remaining issues, including the lifting of sanctions and some issues related to Iran’s nuclear program.
The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran has emphasized that from Tehran’s point of view, the most important step after signing this document is the implementation of commitments and monitoring the adherence of the other party. He added that the Islamic Republic of Iran will fulfill its obligations only if the United States also adheres to its obligations.
Referring to the position of Lebanon in this agreement and emphasizing the end of the war in that country, he said: “The Islamic Republic of Iran has shown that it embraces its friends and will not leave them alone under any circumstances. For us, the ceasefire in Lebanon is as important as the ceasefire in Iran and the end of the war in Lebanon was and is as important as the end of the war in Iran.
Baqaei added that in the first paragraph of this agreement, Lebanon was mentioned several times and the end of the war, respect for the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of this country was clearly emphasized; According to him, this shows the importance of Lebanon in this agreement.
It should be noted that in recent years, Iran and the United States have held several rounds of indirect negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program, the lifting of sanctions, and regional issues.
