The Government of Venezuela reported this Sunday that 33 people have been rescued alive, amid the deployment of international and national rescuers after the earthquake of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 last Wednesday and which mainly affected the state of La Guaira.
In a Presidential Press note, the acting president, Delcy Rodriguez, said that the country is in a crucial period for finding survivorswhen four days have already passed since the earthquake.
“We are in the critical hours of being able to save lives, and we, who are not at work like you, are praying so that we can find people alive,” he added.
Rodríguez met this Sunday with a group of international rescuers whom he thanked for their work and solidarity and added that Venezuelans have a lot of hope in their work.
“To the places where you came, hope came, and you joined the extraordinary work that the Venezuelan rescuers have been doing since the first minute,” he said, according to a press release from Prensa Presidencial.
The president of the Venezuelan Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez, shared photographs on X and said that the purpose of the meeting was to strengthen humanitarian work in the face of the emergency that the oil nation is experiencing.
The legislator reported this Sunday that 1,450 people have died after the earthquake, while there are 3,150 injured, despite the fact that on Saturday he reported a total of 3,238 injured, without offering details about the reason for this reduction in the record.
Besides, He said that 12,721 families are affected.
Likewise, he announced that there are 2,624 rescuers in the South American country with 137 dogs, 49 support vehicles and 84.8 tons of equipment, medications and surgical supplies.
Early this Sunday morning, a delegation from India arrived in the country to install a field hospital and a group of rescuers from Costa Rica, according to the Ministry of Communication and Information.
