An industrial fire that broke out in Mqabba on Friday, which prompted a response by Civil Protection Department Malta, was brought under control after five hours.
Authorities had issued an urgent appeal for the public to avoid the area due to safety concerns and the presence of emergency response operations. Roads leading into and out of the locality were affected as firefighters and other emergency personnel continued their work on site.
Residents living in nearby areas, including Żurrieq, were advised to remain indoors and keep all doors and windows closed as a precaution. Smoke and fumes generated by the fire have spread beyond the immediate vicinity, raising concerns about air quality in surrounding communities.
No information has yet been released regarding the cause of the fire or whether any injuries have been reported.
