The new Pixar movie, “Toy Story 5”is shaping up to be one of the biggest film hits of the year after recording an impressive debut of 17.5 million dollars in preview screenings.
The figure turns the long-awaited sequel into the movie with the best result in previews from 2026 so far, even surpassing other big releases of the year.
Projections suggest that the film could gross between 145 and 150 million dollars during its first weekend in the United States, although some analysts estimate that the figure could reach between 160 and 175 million thanks to the enthusiasm of the spectators.
If these predictions come true, “Toy Story 5” would surpass the premiere of “Toy Story 4” and would set a new record within one of the most successful franchises in the history of animation.
A new adventure for Woody and Buzz
This time, the beloved toys will have to face a very different enemy: technology.
The story shows how a smart tablet called lilypad completely alters the children’s play dynamicsforcing Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the rest of the gang to adapt to a new reality.
The film once again features the voices of Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear and Joan Cusack as Jessie. In addition, new voices are added such as those of Conan O’Brien and Greta Lee.
Since his debut in 1995, The “Toy Story” saga has become one of the most beloved in cinema, accompanying generations of viewers who grew up with Woody and Buzz.
The fourth installment, released in 2019, exceeded billion dollars at the global box office, consolidating the power of a franchise that also generates billions in products, video games and publications each year.
