Convicted drug smuggler Jonathan Gardiner’s company was subcontracted to do work for the Water and Sewerage Corporation (WSC) when Adrian Gibson served as its chairman, a Supreme Court jury heard today.
The subcontract was awarded to Top Notch Limited by Elite Maintenance Limited, a company that prosecutors allege is owned by Gibson, to paint tanks 1 and 2 at the Blue Hills Water Plant.
The contract, dated June 24, 2020 was shown to ASP Kelson Colebrooke, the investigating officer, by Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Cordell Frazier as he completed his testimony.
Documents obtained by The Guardian show that Michael Halkitis, the now minister of finance, was listed as president and director of Top Notch in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
After looking at the contract, Colebrooke named Gardiner as the subcontractor and Tanya Demeritte as the contractor for Elite.
Demeritte has previously testified that she agreed to become a director of Elite Maintenance, which received multiple Water and Sewerage Corporation contracts, as a favor to Alexandria Mackey, who was at the time Gibson’s fiancée.
Prosecutors allege that Gibson abused his position as chairman to funnel no-bid contracts to companies he owned.
He’s on trial alongside Elwood Donaldson Jr, the corporation’s former General Manager, Jerome Missick, Joann Knowles and Peaches Farquharson.
