Agatha Marcelle, Virginia Gilbert, and Elizabeth Ferguson were recognized for their dedication and faithful service to The Parish of St. Gregory the Great, during the church’s annual Mother’s Day celebration. The recognitions, officials said, highlighted their contributions to the spiritual and community life of the church.
Agatha Marcelle, the parish’s choir director, was named 2026 Mother of the Year, and praised for her commitment to the music ministry and nurturing leadership within the congregation.
St. Gregory officials said Marcelle played a significant role in enhancing worship and fostering a spirit of unity within the parish community.
Gilbert, the parish receptionist and youth leader, received the Hanna Award which church officials said was inspired by the biblical figure Hannah, who is remembered for her deep faith, perseverance in prayer, humility, and devotion to God.
Parish leaders said Gilbert exemplified the same qualities through her daily service and steadfast commitment to mentoring and uplifting young people in the church.
Ferguson, the parish organist, was presented with the Poinciana Award in recognition of her longstanding service to the congregation.
They said much like the vibrant Royal Poinciana tree (Delonix regia) after which the award is named, the honor celebrates women whose quiet strength and consistent contributions enrich the life of the church community.
St. Gregory’s Poinciana award is reserved for a woman who may not have biological children, but who serves as a mother figure to children within and beyond the parish. Ferguson was recognized for the warmth, guidance, and spiritual support she extended through her ministry and example.
The awards were presented as part of the parish’s annual observance celebrating motherhood and acknowledged the invaluable role women continue to play in the life and growth of the church.
