    US-Iran war

The US wants to help evacuate ships stuck in the Persian Gulf. President Donald Trump has announced that starting Monday, aid will begin for ships and their crews that are “stuck” in Hormuz and are running low on supplies.

“We have told these countries that we will safely remove their ships from restricted waterways. Then they will be able to continue their work freely and easily,” wrote Trump.

US Central Command said it would support the effort with 15,000 military personnel, more than 100 aircraft, as well as warships and drones. The goal of the operation is to “restore freedom of navigation for commercial cargo ships” through the strait, CENTCOM said in a statement.

According to the International Maritime Organization, hundreds of ships and about 20,000 sailors were unable to pass through the strait during the conflict.

Shortly after Trump’s comments, Britain’s Maritime Operations Agency reported that a tanker had been hit by an unknown projectile in the strait. All crew members are said to be safe in the incident, which happened north of Fujairah.

Iran blocked the Strait of Hormuz after the US and Israel launched an attack. Last month, the US also imposed its blockade on ships leaving Iranian ports.

Along with Trump’s threats, US-Iran talks are also ongoing.

Earlier, it was known that Tehran sent its 14-point proposal to the United States. It includes the withdrawal of US forces from nearby areas, the lifting of the blockade, the return of frozen assets, the payment of reparations, the lifting of sanctions and an end to the war in Lebanon as well.

Trump said that he has not yet considered the exact text of the Iranian peace proposal, but it is highly likely that he will reject it. Iranian media reported that Washington had sent its response through Pakistan and that Tehran was currently considering it.

Hantavirus is spreading: 3 people have died

The World Health Organization reported on Sunday that three people have died from hantavirus infection on a cruise ship in the Atlantic Ocean.

“To date, one case of hantavirus infection has been confirmed by laboratory analysis, and there are five more suspected cases. Three of the six infected people have died, and one person is currently in intensive care at a hospital in South Africa,” the WHO statement said.

About 150 tourists were on board the ship, which left Argentina about three weeks ago.

WHO is conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the crisis on the ship. The Netherlands confirmed that two nationals had died on that ship, but gave no further details.

South African authorities have launched a search for those who came into contact with the infected passengers.

Hantavirus is found worldwide. It is usually transmitted through the urine of infected rodents such as rats and mice. In rare cases, it is said to be transmitted from person to person.

Hantavirus can cause a severe and sometimes fatal lung infection called hantavirus pulmonary syndrome. There is no specific treatment or medication for this infection, but early medical attention increases the chance of survival.

    Russia-Ukraine war

10 people have been killed and at least 76 injured in Ukraine over the past day as a result of Russian drone and missile strikes.

According to the Air Force of Ukraine, 269 drones were launched by Russia during the night. 249 of them were shot down or intercepted. But 19 drones made a direct hit and one ballistic missile hit the “target”.

As a result, three people were killed in separate incidents in Kherson region, two each in Odessa, Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions, and one person in Sumy region.

The Russian military announced that Ukraine launched at least 334 drones, mostly targeting the Leningrad region. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said three Russian oil tankers, a cruise missile warship and a patrol boat were hit in separate attacks on two ports.

There are currently no details about the damage to the ships, the tankers were part of the “shadow fleet” of Russia.

In addition, on Monday night, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin announced that a Ukrainian drone had arrived in the capital. The mayor wrote that “there are no victims” and did not give details.

Local media released footage of damage to an elite residential complex on Mosfilmovskaya Street by a drone strike.

In recent weeks, Ukraine has launched a series of strikes against Russia’s oil infrastructure, damaging Moscow’s exports worth billions of dollars.

Russian officials largely downplay the consequences of such attacks. However, the Kremlin is worried that Ukrainian drones are penetrating deep into its territory. Putin even announced that he would cut the May 9 military parade in the wake of the Ukraine attacks.

    Tragedy in the English Channel

On Sunday, 2 women died while crossing the English Channel between Britain and France by boat. A boat with 82 people on board ran aground on a beach in northern France on Sunday morning.

The bodies of two women, believed to be in their 20s and believed to be Sudanese, were found inside the boat, officials said. Also, three more people were seriously injured, and 14 people were moderately injured. The French side has started an investigation.

A spokesman for the UK Home Office said it was “deeply saddened” by the deaths. According to the ministry, a total of 597 migrants have arrived in Britain in six small boats in the past seven days. In the past three years, the number of people crossing the strait has increased: in 2025, more than 41 thousand migrants arrived in the foggy Albion in small boats.

In April, Britain and France agreed to send special forces to the coast to stop illegal migrants from crossing the strait. Britain is also trying to control the situation by deporting tens of thousands of illegal migrants.

American soldiers are missing in Africa

Two US servicemen who were participating in the “African Lion” joint military exercise went missing near the city of Tan-Tan in the south of Morocco.

The US Africa Command, along with the Moroccan armed forces and other partners, has launched a search for the missing servicemen near the range. Land, air and sea equipment were involved for this. According to the Moroccan army, the soldiers went missing near the rocky area.

“Preliminary information indicates that two soldiers may have fallen into the ocean,” a US defense official told Reuters. It is said that the incident is not related to terrorism.

“African Lion” is the largest annual joint exercise conducted by the US Army’s Africa Command. This year’s exercises are taking place from April 27 to May 8 in four countries: Ghana, Morocco, Senegal and Tunisia.
