    On February 17, 2025, Montería (Córdoba) shook with the discovery of the body of the minor, Liz Camila Berrío Toledo buried in a plot located in the ‘Las Cruces’ village, jurisdiction of the ‘Santa Lucía’ districtrural area of ​​the city.

    The investigations carried out by the authorities in Córdoba were able to discover that The minor remained confined in a room of the ranch built on the farm where she was found.

    The room was built of wood, where Liz Camila Berrío Toledo would have been subjected to all kinds of humiliationsexually abused and murdered with blunt weapon and knife wounds.

    The National Police, the Attorney General’s Office and officials from the Colombian Army joined the investigations into the case.

    After gathering the respective evidence, were captured in the center of Montería, Juan Carlos González Cárdenas and in the Rancho Grande neighborhood, Samuel Abel Pérez Reyeswho were charged with the crimes of feminicide with circumstances of punitive aggravation of sexual abuse, brutality and concealment of the corpse.

    The defense lawyer, Jorge Luis Estrella Tirado, resigned from the case, apparently because the family of the accused did not have the resources to pay for his services.

    Everything was ready for the oral trial to take place on March 4, but it had to be postponed. The situation has been repeated on several occasions and so far the trial has not been able to take place.

    I would seek a pre-agreement

    To continue the case, Pedro Martínez Humánez was appointed as public defender, and the new hearing was scheduled for April 28 of this year, but it was also postponed, because the lawyer stated that he was not involved in the case.

    The new date for the oral trial hearing was set for May 21 of this year, where it is expected to define the guilt or innocence of the accused.

    Apparently there would be a agreement with the Attorney General’s Office, so that Juan Carlos González Cárdenas accepts the charges and is sentenced to 37 years in prison and not 60 years, as he apparently estimates for the crimes he is accused of.

    This agreement would have been rejected by Jhoana Toledo, the mother of the murdered minor stating that the years of conviction for the crimes committed are very few.

    The new oral trial will be held at eleven in the morning on May 21 of the current year.
