The British military plane carrying Defense Secretary John Healey had its GPS signal jammed during a flight near the Russian border, in an incident attributed by British media to Moscow.
Pilots were forced to use alternative navigation methods in a new episode of electronic disturbance reported in the area of the Kaliningrad enclave.
While returning from Estonia on Thursday, where he was to meet with British troops stationed in the country, “the government plane’s satellite signal was interrupted,” the daily said, adding that one of its journalists was on board.
Phones and computers could no longer connect to the Internet, and the pilots had to resort to alternative methods to determine the plane’s position during the three-hour flight.
According to the newspaper, Russia is suspected of being behind this incident, which is not the first of its kind.
In 2024, the plane carrying him from Poland Grant Shapps, then Defense Minister in the Conservative government, also suffered GPS signal jamming while passing near the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad.
Downing Street has indicated that this type of jamming is not unusual near the Russian enclave.
