The protests developed in Tirana, but also in other countries of the world, where Albanians live and work, have also received the attention of the European Parliament.
During a discussion at the European Parliament in Brussels, the Dutch MEP Anna Strolenberg focused on the situation in Albania and the reasons that, according to her, have brought the citizens to the streets.
She emphasizes that the demands that the Albanians have put on the streets are clear and they rightly ask where the public money goes.
“Albanians have taken to the streets and their demands are clear. Of course they want economic development, but not at all costs. As long as basic needs are not met, such as water, health and a decent salary, they have the right to ask whether public resources are going to the citizens or to a privileged group”
The Dutch MEP also announced that at the end of June she will visit Albania to familiarize herself closely with the situation.
“At the end of June I will travel to Albania to listen and find ideas that we can take with us in order to help,” she said.
