The Assembly of Albania approved in principle this Thursday the draft law on criminal amnesty with 84 votes in favor, secured by the socialist majority.
Because the criminal amnesty requires a qualified majority, Prime Minister Edi Rama also participated in the session, who voted in favor of the draft law. Meanwhile, opposition MPs did not participate in the vote, boycotting the process.
The plenary session was accompanied by tensions and debates. The speaker of the parliament, Niko Peleshi, decided to expel the MP Agron Shehaj, after the latter’s calls from the country during the voting.
