The Justice sentenced 10 people linked to the so-called Operation Jacoban investigation that allowed dismantle an organization dedicated to the supply of drugs and internal arms trafficking in Maldonado.
Among those convicted is the alleged leader of the network, a 28-year-old man who received a sentence of three years and 10 months in prison as the author of a continuous crime of supplying narcotics in real repetition with internal trafficking of firearms and ammunition.
As explained by lawyer Marcos Pacheco in a press conference, recorded by Telemundo (Channel 12), The convicted man acknowledged his participation in the events, which led to a reduction of the sentence.
In addition, eight other members of the organization, between 19 and 45 years old, were convicted of a continuous crime of supplying narcotics, with sentences ranging from two years to two years and six months in prison.
A tenth person involved, aged 35, was convicted of two crimes of aggravated reception and received a sentence of 10 months in prison, replaced by probation.
Two people were charged
The investigation also led to the formalization of two other people.
One of the accused, 27 years old, was formalized for continuous supply of narcotics in real repetition with internal arms trafficking and must comply 180 days of preventive detention.
On the other hand, a 20-year-old young man was charged with possession of drugs not for consumption and was subjected to total house arrest with electronic anklet for 90 days.
More than 57 kilos of cocaine and high-end vehicles
The Justice also ordered the confiscation of the assets seized during the investigation, including 471,958 pesos, US$ 741, two high-end trucks, five cars and three motorcycles.
He also ordered the confiscation of the seized drugs, weapons and ammunition, which will be sent to the corresponding agencies for analysis and subsequent destruction.
The Operation Jacob included 16 simultaneous raids in Punta del Este, Lausana, Maldonado Nuevo, Sarubí, Barrio Rivera, Maldonado Park and Los Olivos, where 15 people were initially detained.

When the operation was presented publicly, the Minister of the Interior, Carlos Blackdefined it as “a hard blow” for the criminal organizations that operate in the department.
For his part, the Maldonado Police Chief, Victor Trezzamaintained that the organization was led by a criminal with a criminal record who managed about 20 drug sales outlets in Maldonado, San Carlos and Punta del Este.
The investigation began after the seizure of more than 53 kilos of cocaine of the highest purity and allowed the identification of a structure dedicated to the massive distribution of narcotics in the department.
So far, the operation has allowed the seizure more than 57 kilos of cocaineequivalent to more than 300,000 dosesvalued at more than US$3 millionin addition to firearms linked to criminal acts and vehicles used by the organization for its criminal activities.
According to authorities, part of the operation included the use of cars and motorcycles to distribute drugs in different parts of the department.
