Bir Lehlou, 5 June 2026 (SPS) – The President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, has sent a message of congratulations to Zimbabwean President, H.E. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, following Zimbabwe’s election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2027–2029 term.
In his message, the President of the Republic conveyed the warm congratulations of the Government and people of the Sahrawi Republic, expressing confidence that Zimbabwe will have a successful and influential tenure on the Council.
He described Zimbabwe’s election as a significant achievement and a reflection of the trust placed by African Union member states and the wider international community in Zimbabwe’s commitment to international peace and security, multilateral cooperation, and the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter.
He stressed that Zimbabwe’s presence on the Security Council would contribute positively to the maintenance of international peace and security, the peaceful settlement of disputes in accordance with international law, and the strengthening of the voice of Africa and the Global South within the United Nations system.
The message also highlighted the longstanding bonds of friendship and solidarity between the Sahrawi Republic and Zimbabwe, noting their shared commitment to the founding principles of the African Union, particularly the right of peoples to self-determination, the eradication of colonialism in all its forms, and the implementation of Africa’s Agenda 2063.
The President of the Republic reaffirmed his country’s readiness to work closely with Zimbabwe and its Permanent Mission to the United Nations in pursuit of common objectives and mutual interests.
He also expressed deep appreciation for Zimbabwe’s consistent and principled support for the Sahrawi people’s struggle for freedom and independence in continental and international forums.
