Foreign Minister Mario Lubetkin also referred to this visit by Orsi and noted that responds to “very strong” pressure from the FIFA president, Gianni Infantinoso that the presidents of the countries whose teams participate in the World Cup are present at the event.
“It will be very difficult for the president not to go, at least to the first game.“, he had announced hours before the news was confirmed.
The extension of Orsi’s trip responds, on the other hand, to a event organized by several Uruguayan institutions to promote national products to businessmen, which will be held in Miami on June 17.
“We are preparing a great event on the 17th in Miami taking advantage of all this promotion climate for Uruguayan products. I know that the president had been invited to lead it that day,” Lubetkin explained and assured that the president’s presence will give an “extraordinary quality” to the activity.
The request sent by the Executive Branch states that the president will participate in the “Uruguay Day in Miami“, organized by the Uruguayan embassy in the United States.
Regarding the eventual meeting with US President Donald Trump, Lubetkin insisted that it will not be possible on this occasion. “It was part of a hypothesis. Trump is on other things, the president (Orsi) can only be there for a couple of days. The meeting will come out when it has to,” he said at a press conference.
