Construction of the new Iron and Metal School is expected to begin in 2027, and is scheduled to be completed in 2030. A project group in Sisimiut is already working to find out how workshops, common areas and outdoor areas can be best utilised.
The Iron and Metal School must gather under one roof in Sisimiut. Naalakkersuisut has decided that, and it means that a new school must be built, so that there is room for the extra students and teachers who are currently at the school in Nuuk.
The new Iron and Metal School is part of Naalakkersuisut’s overall effort to strengthen the technical programs and bring them together in a coherent campus environment.
Grant approved
In the spring, a tendering process was carried out for consultancy services, where several offers were received. On the basis of an overall evaluation, Inuplan A/S was chosen as adviser, with Pilu A/S as sub-advisor. In the spring of 2026, Naalakkersuisut announced that Inatsisartut’s Finance and Tax Committee had approved the grant, which is expected to land at around DKK 350 million. kroner.
The new Iron and Metal School is expected to give a significant professional boost and strengthen the quality of the technical educations. At the same time as creating an attractive educational environment with better utilization of workshops, laboratories and equipment. The school will also create a better framework for innovation, continuing education and students in need of special support.
Project group in progress
At KTI in Sisimiut, a project group is already working at high pressure in relation to the design of workshops, outside areas and common areas.
The tendering process for the construction itself is expected to be completed in mid-2027. After that, construction is expected to begin at the end of 2027, and the school is expected to be put into use at the end of 2030.
