The EU reacts to Vučić after his statements about Kosovo

The European Union (EU) called to avoid statements that do not help in the process of normalizing relations between Serbia and Kosovo, stressing that dialogue is the only way to progress on the European path.
“Only through dialogue can progress be achieved in the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia. Statements and actions that do not contribute to this goal must be avoided,” said the spokesperson of the European Commission, answering a question regarding the recent statements of the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, about Kosovo.
“Progress in the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina is a prerequisite for both sides to make progress on their European path,” said the EU spokesperson.
On July 25, during the promotion ceremony of the newest officers of the Serbian Army in Belgrade, Vucic stated that strengthening the army, maintaining military neutrality and protecting territorial integrity are among the main state priorities of Serbia.
Addressing the new officers, Vucic said that the oath they have taken obliges them to respect the Constitution of Serbia and protect the country’s territorial integrity. He added that both they and the state leadership will face various pressures, but that maintaining territorial integrity is of primary importance.
He repeated Belgrade’s official position that “Kosovo is part of Serbia”, referring to the Serbian Constitution and, as he put it, “God’s justice”.
