Tom Pidcock took the victory yesterday to the second edition of the Andorra MoraBanc Clàssicathe professional race of ICU category 1.1 driven by Carlos Veronawho finished second in the test, in a day that had a podium made up entirely of runners resident in the country with the third position of the American Sepp Kuss. After last year’s inaugural edition, the event wanted to take a step forward and consolidate, with the immediate goal of rising from category to 1.Pro (the second level of cycling tests, only behind the World Tour), and the organization gave it a positive assessment. In this sense, the Lidl-Trek cyclist Carlos Veronahe stated that “I am very happy with how the race went, with many more people on the route, at the start or at the finish” and added that “after the first edition last year, we have taken a step forward and I think that this race has come to stay at one hundred percent”. In addition, the resident cyclist he stated that “I think that the level of the race this year was higher with more teams and also better runners, and the goal is to follow this line next year”, and he concluded that “for those of us who live here in Andorra it is a pride to be at home and to be able to do a race like this in an unbeatable environment”.

Carlos Verona, Tom Pidcock and Sepp Kuss took the race podium.Andorra Morabanc Classic

He also showed his satisfaction the Minister of Tourism and Commerce, Jordi Torreswho emphasized that “we saw it with great satisfaction, we had an extraordinary day and we had a spectacular podium”, in addition to pointing out that “we had a fantastic arrival, also a very good start from Plaza del Poblewith the stretch of land of the Pardines or seeing fantastic views of the Engolasters lake“. For all that, Torres affirmed that “I think it has been a great day for cycling, and it is one more stone of what we are building with theAndorra Cycling Territory“.

“It has not been easy at all and it has been very contested, but it is nice to win”Tom Pidcock, Cyclist

The only negative side was the mobility problems that occurred due to the temporary closures of the various roadsas well as the temporary suspension of the public transport lineswhich meant that some users, who were not aware of it, had to wait longer than usual for the bus. On this circumstance, Minister Torres he declared that “we tried to be able to combine the fact that there was a race with road openings and closures as quickly as possible”.

    Pidcock’s final attack

Pidcock prevailed on bottle neck after an attack in the final stretch that left him unanswered Carlos Verona and Sepp Kuss in the last meters. The race followed the planned script, with a first breakaway with 15 runners that gradually fell apart until the French Julien Bernard sought to march alone to the quote. The group of favorites was reduced to just six cyclists, and he tried it too Sepp Kusswith an attack that looked final at 2.8 kilometers, but the resident American was neutralized, and Pidcock he took advantage of it to surprise Kuss and Verona and take the victory. After the race, the winner assured that “it wasn’t easy at all and it was very contested, but it’s nice to win no matter how difficult it was”.

ONE YEAR SIGNED, AND PENDING THE ELECTIONS

The third edition of the Andorra MoraBanc Clàssica will be in June next year, again as one of the last tests before the Tour de Franceand will still do so with the support ofAndorra Tourismwho pledged to sponsor the event for three years. The general election scheduled for next spring, however, will shape the future, and the Minister of Tourism and Commerce, Jordi Torresemphasized in this sense that “we are in an era with electoral proximity that makes it difficult to renew contracts of these characteristics”, in addition to adding that “in June it will be held again, and in principle there will be a new Government that he can make the decisions for the future”. Finally, towers he concluded that “in any case, if it were me, which I won’t be, I think it’s a very cool event and that it should continue for many years”.

In the same sense, Carlos Verona he affirmed that “it’s not easy, but luckily we have the help of all the institutions here, and many sponsors, and that helps us”.
