General elections in Andorra: the PS wants to present a list by parish

The candidate of the Social Democratic Party for head of government, Gerard Alisconfirmed to let’s talk about it from Newspaper TV that the P.S work with concord to build joint candidacies in the parishes for the next ones general elections The formula, which could also incorporate other local forces, seeks to maximize the options of the two formations in the territorial lists and facilitate an eventual alternating government.

“The idea is to be able to make nominations that include Concord, PS and other territorial formations”, he explained Alice. The candidate pointed out that the talks are already underway and that there are enough programmatic “points of understanding” to work together. However, he refrained from advancing names of possible parish allies because negotiations are still open. “It will depend on each parish”, he pointed out.

Alice he remarked that one of the lines he defends P.S is to be present at all territorial candidacies. “The principle is that we are present at all the nominations”, he affirmed. The candidate added that the specific configuration will depend on the reality of each territorybut he insisted that the will is that “both the P.S com concord are represented in these lists”.

“The principle is that we are present in all the candidacies and in all the parishes”Gerard Alis, Head of the PS list

The social democrat justified this strategy by the weight of the electoral system, which makes parish seats decisive. according to Aliceterritorial platforms must allow joining forces, incorporate local sensitivities and defend shared projects in each parish. In this sense, he set as an example Andorra la Vellawhere the current communal majority already responds to a sum formula between P.S, concord and other actors. “I think this is the model that should be reproduced”, defended the social democrat.

    Interview with Gerard Alis

One of the most complex situations is that of Sant Julià de Lòria. Alice described the parish as a “certainly complicated” territory due to the presence of Wake up Laurèdia and for its current political composition. “It is one of the things we are debating”, he acknowledged. The candidate remarked that the P.S there must be a presence, but he admitted that it is still necessary to define how this candidacy is modulated.

In this scenario, Alice he pointed out Wake up Laurèdia as an actor with whom it will be necessary to negotiate, he affirmed. However, he recalled that within the platform there are diverse sensitivities and people from Democratswhich could complicate an eventual understanding. He also admitted that the proximity of some sectors with Ladislaus Baron it keeps the Lauredian stage open. Precisely, asked by baron as a possible Democratic candidate, Alice he acknowledged that he is “someone well known” and with “extensive experience in politics”. According to the candidate of P.Scould generate consensus within the centre-right, but would also have to assume the wear and tear of the current one Government. However, he admitted that if he is finally the candidate, he can complicate the fight for Saint Julianbecause of the great influence that the current minister has on the parish and on the group that governs it.

    Escaldes and Gili

As for Escaldes-Engordany, Alis avoided closing the door to a possible understanding with the environment of Rose Gilibut he admitted that there is still no contact and that “I don’t know if she has already completed her political career”, but he stated that “everything can be discussed”. The candidate recalled that Scalds it is a parish where local platforms have already given results and he defended that it will be necessary to count on the strength that has arisen around the current communal majority.

Alice he also pointed out that the future configuration of the lists will have to combine militants from the Social Democratic Partyindependents and related people who want to get involved in the project. “There is a basis”, he affirmed, pointing out that the party’s current parliamentary representation will be present in future candidacies. The final goal, according to the candidate, is to build an alternative majority to the current onethe Government. Alice he insisted that the PS wants to be part of this project, either leading it or participating in it depending on the results. “The objective is that we now need an alternative government”, he concluded.

    Pere Baró and Gerard Alis.

THE GOVERNMENT THAT WILL MARK THE NEXT 15 YEARS

Gerard Alis considers that the next legislature will be decisive because the decisions taken will mark theAndorra of the next ten or fifteen years. The social democratic candidate placed among the main challenges thehousing, the sustainability of the pension system, the growth model and the relationship with Europe. As he defended, the country must define how far it can grow in population, economic activity and tourism, while facing pending structural reforms. Alice he assured that these challenges justify the need for an alternating government and he remarked that the next elections will determine not only who governs, but also the model of the country for the next decade.
