Occupied Laayoune, June 30, 2026 (SPS) – The Association received a disturbing statement from the family of the civilian prisoner, Muhammad al-Bashir Boutenkiza, stating that he has been suffering for several days from severe and continuous bleeding at the level of hemorrhoids, which has led to him losing a large and increasing amount of blood, with the bleeding continuing without stopping, which has made his health condition on a dangerous downward trend.
His health condition necessitated his transfer to the central prison clinic in Kenitra, where the doctor on duty diagnosed his condition as serious and urgent, and recommended that he be transferred immediately to an external hospital to conduct the necessary examinations and treatments, to stop the bleeding and save his life. However, the prison director categorically refused to transfer the prisoner, in flagrant violation of the right to medical care, and in complete disregard for the seriousness of his health condition, which cannot tolerate any delay.
Available data indicate that prisoner Boutenkiza has been suffering from continuous bleeding for days. He is bedridden, unable to move, suffering from severe fatigue, loss of balance, clear signs of emaciation, and a rapid deterioration in his vital functions as a result of continuous blood loss.
It is noteworthy that the aforementioned Sahrawi civilian prisoner has been suffering from hemorrhoids for years, and was demanding that the prison administration release him to receive treatment in the hospital, but they were content with giving him painkillers and sedatives that negatively affected his digestive system, without any serious medical intervention, which exacerbated his condition and brought him to this critical point that threatens his life at any moment.
The Association for the Protection of Sahrawi Prisoners in Moroccan Prisons, while denouncing this deliberate medical neglect and unjust administrative refusal, strongly appeals:
The High Commissioner for Human Rights, the International Committee of the Red Cross, international and regional human rights and humanitarian organizations, international parliamentary bodies, human rights activists and all living consciences, urgent and immediate intervention to save the life of the Sahrawi civilian prisoner Mohamed Al-Bashir Boutenkiza, and working to transfer him to a hospital institution outside the prison to receive the necessary treatments to stop the bleeding and stabilize his health condition, and to reveal the legal and moral responsibilities for this dangerous medical and administrative failure.
