Occupied Laayoune, May 4, 2026 (SPS) – The Association for the Protection of Sahrawi Prisoners in Moroccan Prisons expressed its strong denunciation and absolute condemnation of the new crime committed by the Moroccan occupation authorities against the released Sahrawi prisoner, Abdel-Mawla Al-Hafidi.
The association confirmed that a force of Moroccan occupation forces in official vehicles, this morning, Monday, May 4, 2026, in the Agrifia region (south of the occupied city of Boujdour), kidnapped the released civilian prisoner Abdel Mawla Al-Hafidi, who had recently been released from Safi prison in Morocco.
According to documented information, the occupation forces took the released prisoner to an unknown destination without providing any legal reason, in flagrant violation of all international laws and norms.
Hours after the kidnapping – the association says – the prisoner Abdel-Mawla Al-Hafidi was able to contact his family to inform them that he had been abandoned in a deserted and remote area, about 175 kilometers away from the city of Boujdour, which put his life in imminent danger.
The Association reaffirmed that these serial criminal practices, which include kidnapping, torture and forced deportation, are only a new episode in the series of systematic crimes committed by the Moroccan occupation against the defenseless Sahrawi people.
Based on the above, the Association called for the formation of a neutral and independent international mechanism to supervise the monitoring of the human rights situation in Western Sahara, document violations and crimes committed against Sahrawi civilians, and submit periodic and transparent reports to both the Security Council and the United Nations Human Rights Council.
It called for the opening of an immediate and independent international investigation into the crime of kidnapping and endangering the life of the released prisoner Abdel Mawla Al-Hafizi, and for the perpetrators to be held accountable.
It also called for the release of all Sahrawi prisoners and detainees in Moroccan prisons, and an immediate end to the policy of kidnapping and forced disappearance.
“The international silence regarding these crimes will only encourage the occupation to further torture our defenseless Sahrawi people. Therefore, we call on the international community to intervene urgently to stop the violations and guarantee the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and to live in dignity and peace,” says the Association for the Protection of Sahrawi Political Prisoners (SPA).
