Constantine (Algeria), May 5, 2026 (SPS) – The activities of the International Cultural Demonstration for Public Astronomy were concluded in the City of Suspension Bridges, Constantine Province, Algeria.
The 21st edition of the festival witnessed the participation of the Sahrawi Republic among the large international presence, and a large turnout of associations, clubs and university students from various states of Algeria.
This scientific demonstration was characterized by a number of cultural, recreational and specialized activities in astronomy with the participation of dozens of associations and clubs specialized in the field of astronomy and Algerian and international scientific research centres.
This scientific appointment aims to promote scientific culture and simplify astronomy to the public, with a focus on the night sky as a space for observation and knowledge.
It also constituted an opportunity to prepare for two expected astronomical phenomena in Algeria: the partial solar eclipse on August 12, 2026, and the total eclipse on August 2, 2027.
This festival, which this year bears the slogan “Nebulae: Cosmic Incubators of Stars,” has become a special tradition in the ancient city of Sakhr and is witnessing a remarkable turnout by astronomy enthusiasts, which is organized annually by the Sirius Astronomy Society.
The new edition, which lasted for three days, focused on promoting scientific culture in this field and encouraging students and students to discover the secrets of the sky and exchange knowledge and experiences among specialists in this scientific field.
The event witnessed the presentation of scientific and cultural presentations and lectures, astronomy workshops, and classes in the space dome within the framework of this edition of the National Festival of Public Astronomy, in addition to tourist trips around the historical areas in the cities of Constantine and Annaba.
The National Festival of Public Astronomy in Constantine shed light on the phenomenon of nebulae, as the most prominent cosmic objects that constitute the cradle of the birth of stars in the universe. The choice of this scientific axis comes in order to simplify complex astronomical concepts and bring them closer to the public through interactive presentations and workshops that highlight the pivotal role of this cosmic phenomenon.
The festival is not limited to the scientific elite, but rather opens its doors to families and children through scientific competitions, film screenings, and scientific plays, including the “Conflict of Nebulae” show, which combines art and knowledge during the closing ceremony, which witnessed the introduction of song interludes and the presentation of poetic poems. The ceremony concluded with honoring the participants in this edition.
The event was an occasion for the Sahrawi delegation to hold a number of meetings with the participating delegations and provide symbolic gifts and books about the Sahrawi issue.
The Sahrawi Republic is participating in the international cultural event with a delegation that includes the Central Director of Information and Legislation of the National Council, the writer and journalist Hamma El Mahdi, and the journalist Mahmoud Ahmed Ibrahim, in addition to delegations from Mauritania, Tunisia, South Africa, Botswana, Spain, France, and Switzerland, in the presence of the International Astronomical Union, and African, European, and American astronomical societies.
