Shaheed El-Hafed, May 5, 2026 (SPS) – The Ministry of Occupied Territories and Diaspora received Ms. Laura Boldrini, Chair of the Permanent Subcommittee on Human Rights in the Italian Chamber of Deputies.
She was welcomed at the ministry’s headquarters by the Minister of Occupied Territories and Diaspora, Mohamed El-Mami Tamek, who expressed his appreciation for the visit, describing it as significant given her prominent profile and well-known commitment to human rights advocacy.
The meeting addressed issues related to human rights, including the situation of Sahrawi political prisoners in Moroccan prisons, the suffering of their families, as well as the conditions of Sahrawi workers, women in the occupied territories, and Sahrawi students studying in Moroccan universities.
For her part, the Chair of the Human Rights Committee expressed concern over the situation of Sahrawi political prisoners in Moroccan prisons, as well as the condition of Sahrawi women and the violations they face at the hands of Moroccan security forces. She affirmed her determination to make every effort to visit the occupied territories and closely observe the violations faced by Sahrawis.
She added that she and the Human Rights Committee would work to pressure the Italian government to pursue a solution consistent with international legitimacy, namely the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination.
Ms. Laura Boldrini is accompanied by the Deputy Chair of the Committee and member of the Italian Parliament, the Foreign Relations Advisor of the Chamber of Deputies, and the Italian Consul in Algeria.
