American television reporter Abigail Velez issued a public apology to the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the BiH national football team after her comment in the announcement of the duel against the United States caused numerous negative reactions.
Velez announced herself through social networks, admitting that in her desire to add a dose of humor to the announcement of the match, she crossed the line of good taste.
“In a bad attempt to have a little fun in the spirit of the World Cup, I went too far and made a thoughtless comment on the air that was insensitive and inappropriate. I apologize to the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team. The World Cup should unite communities around the world, and my comment did not reflect that spirit. I wish all national teams the best of luck in the rest of the competition,” said the American journalist.
Let us remind you that during a live broadcast on the ABC7 program, announcing the duel between the USA and Bosnia and Herzegovina in the round of 16 of the World Cup, Velez stated that she “knows almost nothing about Bosnia and Herzegovina”, and added that she “wouldn’t know how to show it on a map”. At the end, she sent a provocative message: “Get ready, Bosnia, because we are coming.”

The recording of her speech quickly spread on social networks and caused a lot of criticism, and many judged it to be an unprofessional and unnecessary disparagement of the country that achieved historic success by reaching the knockout phase of the World Cup.
Bosnia and Herzegovina will play against the United States of America in the round of 16 of the World Cup on the night of July 1-2, and the Dragons will have the opportunity to continue their story against one of the hosts of the tournament.
