The Surman Municipal Council expressed deep concern and condemnation over the recent security incidents in the city, describing them as serious breaches threatening citizens’ safety and undermining public stability, which resulted in the killing of a young man from the city.
The municipality said these developments come despite efforts by the mayor, the security director, and the Special Tasks Department – Western Branch, to contain the situation and maintain security within the city.
It called on citizens to exercise caution and adhere to instructions issued by the relevant authorities to ensure their safety under the current circumstances.
The council also appealed to all conflicting parties to act with national responsibility, prioritize reason and wisdom, and refrain from actions that could escalate tensions or harm social peace.
It reaffirmed its full condemnation of these unlawful acts, stressing that it will not tolerate any attempts to undermine the city’s security, and that it will take necessary legal measures against anyone proven to be involved, in coordination with the relevant security authorities.
It concluded by reaffirming its full commitment to following up on these issues until their resolution, ensuring justice for those affected, protecting the rights of innocents, and upholding the rule of law.
