In London have several bars the prices of beer increased sharply. A pint of Moretti or Heineken now costs £11. That’s the equivalent of around 13.75 CHF. Half a pint £8 (approx. 10 CHF). Guinness is available for £10 (approx. CHF 12.50). Bottled beer is even more expensive: at the Connaught Grill in Mayfair, a 330ml bottle of Noam Lager or Curious IPA costs up to £12.50 (around £15.63 CHF).
The Price increase is coming According to “The Independent”, months after the Guinness manufacturer Diageo announced that it would increase the price of draft beer by 5.2 percent from April. According to pub owners, Diageo is aiming to launch the first £10 pint on the market.
London most expensive city for beer
London remains the most expensive city in Great Britain for beer. While a pint in London costs on average £6.50 (approx. 8.13 CHF), the national average is £4.52 (approx. 5.65 CHF). Industry experts warn that rising prices are putting pressure on pubs.
Camra chairman Ash Corbett-Collins told The Telegraph that the government needed to take action to support pubs. Higher taxes and social security contributions would otherwise force many innkeepers to further increase prices or close their establishments.
