The citizens of the area have complained about the dangers that rats can cause, as many children pass by every day. The municipality of Pristina has not responded to the plight of the citizens
The place where garbage is collected on “Hyzri Talla” street in the Sunshine Coast has been transformed into a “nursery” for rodents.
The citizens of the area have complained about the dangers that rats can cause, as many children pass by every day.
Blerina Lila, resident and director of one of the kindergartens in this neighborhood, said that they are worried about the situation.
“Recently, we have started to worry a lot about the large spread of rats in this container area. Rats have been observed for a long time, which have already created their own areas, i.e. their shelter. A large number of rats are constantly observed. To be honest, we are worried as an area and, in reality, we have many nurseries in this neighborhood. It is a great concern, for which the responsible institutions must take measures for disinfection and deratization, as well as to provide us with a better well-being in the neighborhood, because above all public health is affected”, said Lila.
She said that in most cases the area is dirty from garbage, while she invited the institutions to take measures.
“Of course, children are our priority and they should be the priority of the institutions as well. This matter must be treated seriously, so that the children have a better well-being and grow up in a cleaner place. In reality, I am not sure if anyone has come to intervene, because this area has been unclean and not maintained for a long time. Very often you see a large pile of garbage that is not maintained. If they had come to do some intervention, the area would be more clean. I’ve never seen anything like it,” she said.
Even the resident Pajazit Halimi has expressed his concern about this situation.
“I pass here often, 40 minutes ago a woman threw a bag here, the rats were there, I was terrified, if it wasn’t for me, that woman would have been scared, they were very big. It is very disturbing here, I pass here often, but I don’t know where they came from”, said Halimi.
Epidemiologist Lebibe Hashani has said that to manage this situation, it is necessary to carry out deratization at least twice a year.
Hashini has emphasized that this should be done in spring and autumn when they multiply.
She also mentioned a number of diseases that can be caused as a result of rodents
“For this reason, it is very dangerous, because rodents cause many infectious diseases, such as leptospirosis, salmonella, hepatitis A, as well as hantavirus… All these and others. In fact, in the literature it is said that more than 300 microorganisms can be spread by a rodent, because they are immune to their microorganisms, while we are not immune”, said Hashani.
She stated that not collecting garbage for a long time affects the increase of rodents.
KOHA has sent questions to the Municipality of Pristina about whether it will take measures for this problem, but during Thursday it did not receive an answer.
