MOSCOW – Children who use artificial intelligence systems like ChatGPT will stop thinking and will be inclined to believe that 2 times 2 equals 5, warned academician and president of the Scientific Council for the Methodology of Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vladislav Lektorski.
“Such a danger really exists. And I think it is already being noticed among school children. It is connected to the education system, where students resort to artificial intelligence systems like ChatGPT and other platforms to find answers to all kinds of questions. And so they lose the ability to think,” answered Lektorski when asked by the RIA Novosti agency whether the widespread use of artificial intelligence will lead to people “using their brains” less and less.
According to him, the challenge facing education today is not only to “arm” students with knowledge, but to develop their ability to think critically and independently.
“Someone who works in the field of education recently said: if a student is used to trusting artificial intelligence, then if the AI tells him that 2 times 2 equals 5, he will believe it and think that it is true. This is a terrible thing, it absolutely must not be done,” stressed the Russian academician.
Therefore, added Lektorski, it is necessary to draw a line between where the possibilities of artificial intelligence could and should be used, and where it is absolutely not allowed, reports Tanjug.
