Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has denied targeting Kuwait International Airport, saying the damage to the passenger terminal was caused by a faulty US-made Patriot missile system, state TV IRIB reports.
IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebbi said investigations showed that the force’s Aerospace Division did not fire on the Kuwait airport terminal.
– Our investigations regarding the attack on the passenger terminal in Kuwait show that the IRGC Aerospace Forces did not fire on this target, the spokesman said.
Mohebbi claims the damage was caused by a Patriot missile that crashed into the terminal after failing to intercept Iranian missiles.
– The destruction of the passenger terminal at the airport in Kuwait was caused by an error of the American Patriot system after it failed to intercept Iranian missiles, he added.
The IRGC said on Wednesday it had attacked a US base in Kuwait and the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, in retaliation for a US attack on their communications tower on the southern island of Qeshm.
