SAN MARINO – The first experience of the guided tour “On the trail of freedom” has ended, the educational project aimed at primary school pupils to bring the new generations closer to the history, identity and values of the Republic of San Marino through an itinerary in the historic centre.
The protagonists of the initiative were the pupils of the fifth classes of the “L’Olivo” Elementary School of Falciano and of the “Arcobaleno” Elementary School of Cailungo, involved in a journey through history, memory and San Marino cultural heritage.
The itinerary takes up the contents of the volume of the same name written by the teacher Elena Carattoni and published by the San Marino publishing house Gaby Books, specialized in children’s books. The book received the patronage of the Secretariats of State for Education and Culture, for the Territory and for Tourism.
Following the events narrated in the volume, the students visited some of the symbolic places of the Republic, from Porta San Francesco to the Tre Torri, passing through Piazza della Libertà, Palazzo Pubblico and the Basilica del Santo.
The visit was conducted by the tourist guide Anna Chiara Macina, on behalf of the company Guide Turicchie e Cultura Srl. Along the route, stories, riddles, observation tests and moments of discussion allowed the children to delve deeper into themes such as freedom, collaboration, the sense of belonging and active citizenship.
The experience ended with a shared reflection on the meaning of freedom and the importance of knowing one’s community. The project aims to combine education and culture, promoting knowledge of San Marino’s historical heritage through the direct involvement of schools.
The initiative also contributes to the valorisation of the Historic Centre, recognized as a world heritage site, and to the promotion of sustainable tourism linked to conscious knowledge of the territory.
Through the story and direct experience of the places, “On the trail of freedom” offers young people the opportunity to discover the history and values of the Republic, becoming ambassadors of San Marino’s cultural heritage.
