The way financial institutions address issues such as climate change, financial inclusion and corporate governance has become a key factor in their long-term sustainability. In this context, Banco General published its 2025 Responsible Banking Report, in which it presents the main advances, learnings and challenges of its environmental, social and governance (ESG) management during the last year.
The document includes the closing of the ESG Strategic Plan 2023–2025, a period in which the bank focused its efforts on strengthening its climate management, expanding access to the financial system and consolidating its social investment in education, in line with the Principles of Responsible Banking and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Advances in climate action and environmental management
In the environmental field, Banco General continued to strengthen the management of its carbon footprint, advancing in the measurement of emissions from Scopes 1 to 3, as well as in energy efficiency and sustainable mobility initiatives. At the end of 2025, the bank had solar panels installed in 30 locations, reaching a total capacity of 1.89 MW, which allowed close to 20% of the energy consumed to come from renewable sources.
Likewise, the institution operated for the first year with a fleet of 100% electric sedans, achieving an approximate 85% reduction in emissions associated with these vehicles, and made progress in preparing the necessary mechanisms to achieve carbon neutrality of its operation in 2026.
During the year, the bank also participated in the pilot plan of the Taxonomy of Sustainable Finance of Panama, contributing to the strengthening of technical capacities and the validation of criteria that will serve as a basis for its future adoption in the national financial system.
Financial inclusion and digital innovation
Financial inclusion remained one of the central axes of the bank’s social management. In 2025, Banco General opened more than 194,600 first digital savings accounts, of which 91% corresponded to people with incomes of less than US$1,000 per month. Additionally, more than 39,300 first loans were granted to people with no prior credit history, expanding access to the formal financial system.
The Yappy platform maintained its leadership as one of the main digital payment methods in the country, reaching 1.7 million customers and affiliated businesses, and adding new banks to the ecosystem. These solutions facilitated payments, transfers and services in an agile, secure and accessible way for thousands of Panamanians.
In terms of financial education, the bank exceeded its three-year goal by impacting more than 10,000 people between 2023 and 2025, also incorporating, for the first time, activities aimed at primary school students.
Social investment and support for communities
Through the Sus Buenos Vecinos Foundation, Banco General allocated a social investment of more than US$11.3 million in 2025, benefiting 134 non-profit organizations. More than 57% of the budget was directed to educational programs, including scholarships, own educational centers and community projects.
As part of its commitment to the communities, the bank made an extraordinary donation of more than US$1 million through the project Your Vote Countsbenefiting the social organizations that received the most votes from 187,000 clients.
Governance and transparency
In terms of governance, the report highlights the strengthening of internal regulatory frameworks, the updating of key policies such as the Code of Ethics and Conduct and the Anti-Corruption and Anti-Bribery Policy, and the integration of ESG criteria at the highest decision-making level.
