Police in Poland are currently investigating the murder of a Russian artist who criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to coverage BBC the artist, known as Semyon Skrepetsky, was shot dead in the Polish town of Biala Podlaska, about 40 kilometers from the border with Belarus.
Skrepetsky, who was 44 years old, was shot five times in a parking lot in the town, about 600 meters from the Belarusian consulate.
Two arrested
Skrepetsky was known for his caricatures of politicians, including Putin, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and Tetenia leader Ramzan Kadyrov.
Two Belarusian citizens have been arrested in connection with the murder, but their role in the case is still under investigation.
The artist had received international protection in Poland after fleeing Russia in 2021.
Tried to warn him
His work has mocked the actions of Russia and Putin, while making fun of Putin’s opponents, Alexei Navalny, and the Ukrainians.
Skrepetsky leaves behind a wife and five children in Poland.
BBC reporters spoke to Skrepetsky’s good friend, who said he often warned him that “they were going to get him” and that “this could end badly.”
Warnings had little effect on his partner, who has now died.
