As presidential minister Marcin Przydacz said in an interview with RMF FM, Poland’s ambition is to have 15,000 U.S. troops stationed in the country, while the minimum figure would be 11,000.
“Our ambition is 15,000…”
Marcin Przydacz recalled that although the Pentagon halted the rotation of 4,000 soldiers in May, U.S. President Donald Trump decided to send an additional 5,000 troops.
“Our ambition is 15,000, while the minimum version is 11,000, which would still be more than before, because until now there were 10,000 (…) We are operating within a range of between 11,000 and 15,000. The final decisions are still ahead of us,”
the presidential minister noted.
Talks are ongoing
He also assured that talks are underway to ensure that as many U.S. troops as possible are present in Poland.
“I think future American decisions will not be based solely on these two specifics, namely the additional 5,000 troops and the lifting of the suspension of the brigade rotation. The Pentagon will develop a comprehensive new structure for the U.S. presence in Europe. As part of this new presence, we want these numbers to be as high as possible,”
Marcin Przydacz said.
The aim, as he added, is also for the rotational presence of U.S. troops to be transformed into a permanent presence.
“For that, specific agreements, concrete infrastructure, and action on the part of both the Pentagon and Poland’s Ministry of National Defence are needed. But the most important direction is, of course, the decision of the White House itself, and that is what we will be seeking,”
he stressed.
