The State Attorney General’s Office reported that on the night of April 10, 2026, a security incident was recorded in Quito that involved the deputy attorney general, Leonardo Alarcón.
According to the official statement, the authority’s security device activated the protection protocols after detecting a vehicle in a suspicious attitude in the vicinity of the place where it was located. Minutes later, detonations were reported in the sector, which led to the immediate evacuation of the official.
During the operation, the vehicle was intercepted by the security team and its occupant was detained. The authorities confirmed that the citizen was carrying a firearm, so he was placed under the orders of the competent authorities.
The institution indicated that specialized units of the National Police are carrying out procedures to clarify what happened and determine possible responsibilities.
In his statement, The Prosecutor’s Office warned that this fact shows the risks associated with the exercise of the functions of the State Attorney General (e), in the context of the actions promoted by the entity against corruption and criminal structures.
Finally, the Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that Alarcón is out of danger and reiterated that he will continue to exercise his functions in accordance with the law and in defense of the public interest.
