“As of August 7, Colombia will be part of the Shield of the Americas,” was the announcement made by De la Espriella in a tweet in which he thanked Pete Hegseth, Secretary of War of the United States, for his congratulations.
To this he added: “Colombia will no longer be governed by a government that is complacent with narco-terrorism, we will begin to combat it accordingly.”
Abelardo de la Espriella responded in this way to the message from Secretary of War Pete Hegseth. “Congratulations, President-elect Abelardo de la Espriella, ‘the tiger’, on your historic victory in Colombia,” said the Trump administration official in charge of military actions.

“We invite your incoming administration to work with the War Department and the Coalition of the Americas Against Cartels to reinvigorate the military alliance between both countries to end the production of deadly narcotics and eradicate the narcoterrorist plague from our hemisphere,” Hegseth stated in his message.
Before said message, it was learned that the president-elect had a meeting with Senator Bernie Moreno. At the meeting they talked about migration and other crucial issues. Even in an interview with Noticias Caracol, Moreno opened the door for Colombia to be part of the Shield of the Americas.
With the arrival of De la Espriella to the Casa de Nariño, relations with the government of Donald Trump begin to be reestablished. He not only gave him support after the first round, but has announced that there will be closeness with the incoming government.
