A disturbing discovery on Vernon Street has left police searching for answers tonight. The body of twenty-two-year-old Kimane Garbutt, who was pregnant, was found in a decomposed state on the second floor of a Belize City residence on Sunday. Police say a friend made the discovery and alerted authorities. Tonight, investigators are trying to determine what led to Garbutt’s death. ASP Stacy Smith shares what police know so far.

“Police are investigating the death of twenty-two-year-old Kimane Garbutt of Belize City. The investigation commenced on second August 2026 at around nine thirty AM when investigators were called to a residence on Vernon Street and the body of Garbutt, which had already begun to decompose, was discovered. What the investigators have learned is that Garbutt, who was with child, was last seen alive at around seven o’clock AM on first August twenty twenty-six, at which time she indicated to a friend that she was not feeling well. The friend visited her at around nine o’clock a.m. on the second, and after calls to her went unanswered, he entered the apartment building and made the discovery and subsequently alerted police. The body of Ms. Garbutt now awaits a postmortem examination”
