He announced his readiness to participate in the World Cup

The Algerian Football Federation officially announced the extension of the contract of national coach, Vladimir Petkovic, until July 31, 2028, as confirmed by Echorouk in a previous issue.
The Swiss technician was appointed head of the national team on February 29, 2024, and has achieved good results since supervising the Greens. During the 28 matches he played under his leadership, the “Greens” achieved 21 victories, tied in 4 matches, and lost in only 3 confrontations, with a total of 67 goals scored against 22 goals conceded.
Under the leadership of Vladimir Petkovic, the national team returned to the path of success by securing a qualification visa to the 2026 World Cup, thus ending an absence that lasted for two consecutive editions in the 2018 and 2022 tournaments. The national team also reached the quarter-finals of the last African Cup of Nations, after two early eliminations from the first round in the 2021 and 2023 editions.
This progress is also reflected in the FIFA world rankings; Before his arrival, Algeria was ranked 43rd in the world and seventh in Africa, while today the “Greens” are ranked 28th in the world and fourth on the continent.
The Algerian Football Federation values this continuity at the head of the national team’s technical crossbar, which reflects stability and ambition for the upcoming international dates.
On the other hand, the technical staff members also extended their commitment; Davide Morandi (assistant coach), Guido Nani (goalkeeper coach), and Paolo Rongoni (physical trainer) will continue their duties alongside the national team during the next two years.
