The reception for students who have won prizes in international competitions, including Damjan Davkov, who won a gold medal at the European Mathematical Olympiad, will be organized after the end of the current Olympiads, at a gala reception in Villa “Vodno” together with the president of the country – as these children deserve, who are the pride and future of our country, said the Minister of Education and Science, Vesna Janevska.
Answering parliamentary questions in the Parliament, Janevska pointed out that the state has significantly increased financial support for talented students in the past period, stressing that with the changes made by this Government in 2025, for the first time, an opportunity to cover the costs of participation in international competitions – for registration fees and travel for students and their mentors, which did not exist before – was introduced.
– More than five million denars have been paid so far this year. We have paid two associations – Union of Chemists and Union of Physicists. All children were covered for their travel, accommodation, as well as their mentors. Those who finished the matches have already been paid, Damjan Davkov will also be paid. We will make the reception a gala, as these children – representatives, pride and future of our country, deserve it, together with the president of the country in Villa “Vodno”, where I will also be present. We always give them certificates of appreciation and diplomas, so far no child has complained – Janevska said.
The Ministry of Education and Science, reminded Janevska, every year also awards scholarships to talented students in the field of natural sciences, athletes and artists from secondary schools, the monthly amount of which is 3,500 denars for nine months.
– The Ministry of Education and Culture also awards a one-time compensation for students who win first place in a state competition in any subject organized by accredited teachers’ associations in the amount of 50 percent of the average net salary in the country, which did not exist before this Government, as well as a one-time monetary compensation for winning first, second or third place in an international competition in mathematics, informatics and natural sciences in the amount of 100, 80 and 60 percent of the average net salary in the country depending from the won place. A prize is also awarded for winning a medal – gold, silver or bronze for one of the 15 international science Olympiads in the amount of five, four or three average net salaries – this is a legal solution adopted by this Government – said Janevska.
She also announced that they are working on the preparation of a concept for discovering work with talented and gifted students in accordance with foreign experiences.
