There is currently no sufficient and fair basis to be able to give a reliable status of the overall economy in the Municipality of Kujalleq.
The work of getting control of the economy in the Municipality of Kujalleq continues to run at high pressure and is far from finished.
Last week, the municipal council held a meeting where the politicians received a worrying message from municipal manager Randi Vestergaard Evaldsen.
The municipal director assesses that “there is not a sufficiently fair financial basis to be able to give a complete and reliable status of the overall economy.”
Randi Vestergaard Evaldsen further writes in her briefing to the politicians that she has therefore initiated a number of initiatives which aim to ensure that both the municipal council and the administration will have access to valid and reliable financial information going forward.
Working on getting an impartial management audit completed
According to the briefing, the Economic and Business Committee has approved the launch of an impartial investigation into the municipality’s financial situation:
“We are currently working to find external and independent actors who can carry out both an administrative audit and a financial audit of the municipality’s finances in the cheapest and most efficient way for the municipality,” writes Randi Vestergaard Evaldsen.
The municipal director expects that the measures will produce the desired result from next year’s accounts onwards.
According to Randi Vestergaard Evaldsen, progress has been made, as the administration is in the process of strengthening the ongoing budget follow-ups in the administrations.
Hope to be able to complete the 2025 accounts before the deadline
In addition, the administration is also working on the municipality’s accounts for 2025, and it is hoped that the accounts can be completed and presented within the applicable deadline, so that the municipality does not have to apply for an exemption for the deadline.
In connection with the accounts for 2024, the municipality’s auditors made a number of very critical statements about the municipality’s financial management, which has been in trouble since the introduction of a new IT system back in 2021.
