Our contact with the President of DIKO is continuous, said today the President of the Republic Mr. Nikos Christodoulidis.
In his statements to journalists, at the Presidential Palace, in the afternoon, after his meeting with the President DIKO Mr. Nikolas Papadopoulos, the President of the Republic, when asked about the content of this meeting, said that he informed Papadopoulos about the meeting he had earlier with Ms. Holgin and about the developments in the Cyprus conflict.
He added that in his meeting with the President of DIKO “an assessment was made mainly on his part, but also with a comment from me in relation to the results of recent Parliamentary elections Elections and our contact is continuous”.
Asked whether the electoral result of the Parliamentary Elections affects government reshuffle and the plans for the 2028 Presidential Elections, the President of the Republic replied “no, it does not affect the outcome of the Parliamentary Elections in any way. We had Parliamentary Elections and not Presidential Elections”.
DIKO supports Christodoulidis’ initiatives for mobility in Cyprus
DIKO supports the initiatives of the President of the Republic for mobility in the right direction in the Cyprus problem, said for his part the President of the party, Nikolas Papadopoulos.
He stated that he informed the President of the Republic about his own personal analysis which he will present before the Central Committee of the party which will meet on Tuesday to evaluate the result of the parliamentary elections.
Mr. Papadopoulos said that they had “a very friendly and constructive meeting as always with the President of the Republic”.
He added that he had the opportunity to submit to President Christodoulidis the analyzes and opinions of DIKO in relation to the results of the elections.
He was informed, he said, by President Christodoulides in relation to the discussions currently taking place with the personal envoy of the Secretary General of the United Nations, Mrs. Holgin, and the possible next steps in the Cyprus issue.
“As a Democratic Party, of course it is understood that we support the initiatives of the President of the Republic in order to have mobility in the right direction,” he said. “We believe that every effort should be made so that we can lead to an enlarged conference which, however, is a conference of substance. Not simply to discuss confidence-building measures, and of course when we say substance, we mean the resumption of negotiations on the agreed basis of resolving the Cyprus problem determined by the resolutions of the United Nations”, he added.
Asked by a journalist about rumors of an imminent reshuffle and whether this was discussed in their meeting, Mr. Papadopoulos said that this is a matter that concerns the President of the Republic. “We did not discuss such a possibility. Today was not the purpose of our meeting today,” he said.
Answering another question, Mr. Papadopoulos said that he informed the President of the Republic of what his own analysis will be on Tuesday, at the Central Committee of the Democratic Party “where exactly the collective bodies of our party will analyze and evaluate the result of the parliamentary elections”. “I considered it appropriate to inform the President of the Republic what is my opinion, what is my personal analysis which I will present before the Central Committee”, he added.
When asked by a journalist if DIKO remains in the Government in view of the President’s decisions, Mr. Papadopoulos said, “DIKO is in the Government, it remains in the Government and no such issue arises for the Democratic Party.”
