Greenlandic students now have the opportunity to take a master’s degree at some of the world’s most recognized universities via British so-called Chevening scholarships.
Naalakkersuisut has previously this month reached an agreement with the UK on access to a British education programme.
The program is called Chevening, and there is an international scholarship scheme, funded by the British Foreign Office.
The program requires the student to already have a bachelor’s degree, but then it also gives the opportunity to complete a fully funded master’s degree in the UK.
– Among the world’s best
Naalakkersuisoq Nivi Olsen calls the agreement a “historic opportunity for Greenlandic students”:
“British universities are among the best in the world, and with the Chevening scholarships, our young people get the opportunity to be educated at the highest international level. Greenland needs strong, internationally educated skills, and this collaboration is an important step towards the Greenland of the future,” says Nivi Olsen in a press release.
Nivi Olsen signed the new agreement together with Britain’s ambassador to Denmark, Victoria Elizabeth Billing.
Ambassador: This is just the beginning
The ambassador says that the UK is proud to strengthen relations with Greenland through education:
“This is only the beginning, and we look forward to developing even more opportunities for cooperation within, among other things, education, research and strengthening English teaching,” says the ambassador.
Applications for the Chevening program open in August 2026.
