MoJ disburses KD 7.5m to 2,422 debtors

KUWAIT: Justice Minister Nasser Al-Sumait announced Sunday that 2,422 cases have been approved under Kuwait’s debtors relief campaign, with KD 7.51 million (about $24 million) disbursed as of Thursday, representing around 45 percent of the KD 16.54 million (about $53 million) raised during the campaign.

Speaking during a meeting with six working teams responsible for reviewing applications, Al-Sumait said the initiative continues to achieve its humanitarian and social objectives under strict eligibility criteria. He said the ministry has introduced a new review mechanism in cooperation with the general administration of execution to ensure donations reach eligible beneficiaries. Cases are examined by specialized teams in each governorate before being referred to execution judges for final approval.

Priority is given to the most urgent cases, including those involving imprisonment or arrest warrants, alimony, private housing rent and personal debts. Payment for any individual debtor is capped at KD 10,000 across one or multiple cases.

Al-Sumait thanked donors, saying their contributions reflect Kuwait’s enduring values of solidarity and compassion, and praised judges and ministry staff for ensuring assistance reaches beneficiaries promptly. The campaign, which concluded on March 17, raised KD 16.54 million (about $54 million) from 138,328 donors. – KUNA
