On the basis of this letter, on September 29, the Excise Minister directed the Secretary of the Tax Department to take further action. The Excise Minister had directed to urgently submit a detailed report giving a clear definition of low strength liquor considering the applications made by Bakadi and SDF Industries.

The company said in the letter that Bacadi Breezer and Bacadi Plus are favorite products across tourism and corporate events regardless of gender. Due to the lack of these women friendly products, many are running the program in Goa and Pondicherry. In this situation, Bacadi’s letter also demands that the amendment of the category including low alcoholic beverage be implemented along with the beer and wine category. The company also states that low-strength alcohol will be an asset for the government’s revenue growth and the revival of the tourism sector.

Considering this letter, the Left government amended the Foreign Liquor Act by including low-strength alcohol. During the previous government, three new classifications were introduced in liquor. Low alcoholic beverages (0.5%-20% strength), Horti liqueur (20%-30% strength), Horti wine (15.5% strength maximum).
