Three general strikes are already expected, in addition to several sectoral protests, with schools and transport at the forefront. The dates to know
May will be a month of strong trade union unrest. Three general strikes are already expected — on May 1st, 15th-16th and 29th — to which are added several category protests, with schools and transport at the forefront. But let’s see in detail in which sectors workers will fold their arms and what the possible inconveniences for citizens will be. (Here is the complete calendar).
The strike calendar
To open the dance the strike of May 1st, proclaimed by Usi Cit with the participation of Cobas Lavoro Privato: a day of mobilization that will involve all public and private categories, with the exception of transport and school. School stops on May 6th and 7th. There are six national strikes proclaimed by the trade unions which will involve the management, teaching and ATA staff of schools of all levels, with a focus on the technical institutes of all areas and against the Invalsi tests, for the recovery of the purchasing power of teachers and ATA, against the reform of the technical institutes and against precarious employment. In Rome we await a second day to mark, that of May 12th when the staff of nursery schools and nursery schools will go on strike for the whole day affiliated with Roma Capitale.
Transport
THE11 May will instead be the ‘black’ day for air transport. For that date, not only the united and national Easyjet strike is scheduled, from 10am to 6pm, but also a series of protests articulated at a local level, in different sectors, which risk sending air transport into a tailspin. In fact, the employees of the airport security and services companies in Cagliari, of Enav in Rome and Naples, of Adr Security in Fiumicino and of the handling companies in Palermo will also stop.
In the middle of the month, from the 15th to the 16th, the 48 hours of abstention announced by the Csle will start, which will affect a very wide range of workers: public employees, ministries, schools of all levels, universities, healthcare, railways, metalworkers and others. The local public transport strike in Naples by Eav is scheduled for May 20th, from 9 am to 1 pm, organized by Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl, Uiltrasporti, Ugl, Faisa Cisal. In addition, road freight transport will stop from 00.00 on 25 May to 24.00 on 29 May. The general strike promoted by a broader coalition – Usi Cit, Cub, Sgb, Adl Varese, Si Cobas and Usi 1912 – will close the month. Trains will be delayed and canceled from 9pm on May 28th to 9pm on May 29thhand in hand with the motorways, where the agitation will start at 10pm on May 28th and end at the same time the following day.
