In March 2026, the average number of employed people aged 15–74 was 4,646,000. The number of unemployed was 219,000, and the unemployment rate was 4.5%, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Friday.
In the domestic primary labor market, 4,440,000 people were employed, 85,000 fewer than in the same period of the previous year. The number of public sector employees was 69,000, while the number of those working abroad was 119,000.
The average number of unemployed people aged 15–74 was 226,000, and the unemployment rate was 4.7 % in the first quarter.
Among those aged 15–64, the employment rate fell to 74.8% amid a simultaneous decline in both the population and the number of employed people.
The number of unemployed men was 122,000, while the number of unemployed women was 104,000. The unemployment rate was 4.7% for men and 4.6% for women. The average duration of job search was 12.2 months; 35.3% of the unemployed had been looking for work for less than three months, which was 8.1 percentage points lower than in the same period of the previous year.
The proportion of those who had been looking for work for 4–11 months rose by 7.7 percentage points to 28.4%, while the proportion of those who had been looking for work for more than a year remained essentially unchanged at 36.3%.
The Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH) cited administrative data from the National Employment Service, according to which the number of registered job seekers at the end of March 2026 decreased by 4.1% compared to a year earlier to 223,000.
