Theatre lovers are in for a treat when La CourDes Arts De La Dominique stages the play ‘Fly On The Wall’ on Friday September 25 and Saturday 26 at St. Gerard’s Hall from 8pm nightly.
The Play
“Fly on the Wall” by Dorbrene O’Marde is his second (of five) full length plays. It is a satirical Caribbean play that takes audiences inside the hidden world of political power. The play imagines what might happen if ordinary citizens could secretly observe the private dealings of politicians—like a fly on the wall. Through sharp dialogue and biting humor, O’Marde critiques the gap between public promises and private agendas, explores how power thrives in hidden spaces, uses local idioms, humor, and cultural references to ground the story in regional realities and challenges audiences to question leadership and demand accountability. Characters reveal their true motives when they believe no one is watching, creating a contrast between their public speeches and private conversations.
The Playwright
DORBRENE EVERSFIELDO’MARDE, is an Antiguan-born cultural icon, playwright, author, and diplomat, best known as Chairman of the Antigua and Barbuda Reparations Support Commission and Vice-Chair of the CARICOM Reparations Commission. He is a well-recognized cultural worker throughout the Caribbean region and is a recipient of The INTERNATIONAL SUNSHINE AWARD as ‘Friend of the Arts’, the UWI PELICAN AWARD for his sterling contribution to the Arts, and recently the LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD for decades of selfless contribution to ‘Theatre Arts’ in Antigua and Barbuda. He has spent the last two decades deeply involved in the reparatory justice movement. He was appointed Ambassador Plenipotentiary for Antigua and Barbuda’s Reparatory Justice Programme in 2022.
The Presenters
La Cour des Arts De la Dominique Inc FwijéTeyát is a registered non-profit Theatre group that is pro-artand pro-culture. The group began in 1997 as Alliance Française Drama Group and was registered in 2003.In September 2006, the group embarked on an initiative to form the Joint Secondary Schools Drama Group(JSSDG). The vision was to create ‘A Generation of Dramatists Through Opportunity’. The group comprises of members with experience ranging from 10-50 years in the field of theatre arts who have participated in stage, film and radio productions. The group has received support from several agencies in its quest to use drama as a tool to educate and disseminate information on pertinent health, social and environmental issues. Six members of the group are well known even today for their roles in the Domestic Violence TelevisionSeries- Wake Up Call which first premiered in 1998 and was funded through the Women’s Bureau. The groups’ most recent collaborations were with the Alwin Bully Foundation in staging Alwin’s thriller Nite Box in 2023 and the dramatic piece STREAK! In 2025.
