A total of forty-two students were honoured at the first-ever National Schools’ Awards ceremony for their outstanding academic achievements during the 2025- 2026 period.
The event took place at the Goodwill Parish Hall on Monday.
“Today we honour forty-two students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement,” Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said while delivering remarks. “To each of you I offer my warmest congratulations.”
According to him, the students’ success reflects hard work, discipline and determination.
“You have made your families, your schools and indeed our country very proud,” he said.
He continued, “I want you to understand that this recognition is not the end of your journey; it is an encouragement to keep learning, to set high goals and to use your abilities to make a meaningful contribution to our society.”
Furthermore, the Prime Minister added that Dominica needs their talent.
“We need scientists, engineers, teachers, farmers, entrepreneurs, health professionals, artists, and skilled trained people,” he noted. “ Whatever career you choose, pursue it with commitment, integrity, and willingness to serve others.”
Moreover, he told students that they all have different abilities.
“And our responsibility as a country is to ensure that every child has the opportunity to discover and develop those abilities,” Skerrit encouraged.
He welcomed the Ministry of Education decision to recognize schools for excellence in visual and performing arts.
“Modern languages, agricultural, community service, culture, pastoral care, innovation, creativity, and school safety,” he said. “These awards send an important message about the kind of education system we want to build in our country…children who can read, write, and perform well academically. But you also want children who can think independently, work with others, solve problems, appreciate their culture, and contribute positively to their communities.”
The top CSEC students also received recognition at the ceremony.
