Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has commended the organisation and administration of Dominica’s Voter Confirmation exercise, which concluded on October 14, 2026, under the Electoral Office.
He described the initiative, which included the issuance of voter identification cards to approved applicants, as a significant step in the country’s ongoing electoral reform efforts.
Speaking to the media, Skerrit said the 12-month exercise had provided an opportunity for eligible individuals to participate in the confirmation process and maintained that applicants were treated equally under the law.
He acknowledged that, as the initiative was the first of its kind in Dominica, some technical challenges were expected.
However, he said he considered these issues part of the implementation process and reported that the exercise had been successful overall. The Prime Minister also stated that approved applicants who completed the confirmation process had identification cards awaiting collection.
Prime Minister Skerrit noted that the government and people of Dominica had invested considerable resources in electoral reform and welcomed the participation of those who took advantage of the exercise.
He also referred to the Roseau North by-election as an initial test of the voter identification cards, saying their use during the poll had gone well. The Prime Minister expressed support for the continuation of the process, although the effectiveness of the reforms and the broader electoral process remain matters of public interest and scrutiny.
