The President of the European Council, Antonio Costaarrived in Skopje this afternoon as part of the regional tour through the Western Balkans, during which he will have a meeting with the Prime Minister Christian Mickoski.
At the Skopje airport, Kosta was welcomed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Timcho Mutsunskiwho assessed that the visit represents an important opportunity for discussions about the European perspective of the country, the reform agenda and the next steps in the European integration process.
Upon arrival, Košta went to the Government, where a one-on-one meeting with Mickoski is planned, after which a meeting of the two delegations will follow. After the talks, the two will hold a joint press conference.
The visit is part of the wider Balkan tour of the President of the European Council, which began in Sarajevoand continue in Tirana. After Skopje, Kosta will visit them Pristina and Belgradeand the tour will end in Montenegro.
The main purpose of the visits is the exchange of views on the process of enlargement of the European Union, the gradual integration of the region, as well as on issues related to security, stability and regional cooperation.
– The European Union’s commitment to the Western Balkans is real, as is the possibility of expansion. The momentum exists, and now is the time for concrete results – said Kosta on the eve of the visit.
On June 5, he will be co-chairman of EU Summit – Western Balkans in Tivatwhere the main topic will be the common prosperity and stability of the European Union and the countries of the Western Balkans.
